How to Care For Engraved Keepsakes (So They Last a Generation)

An engraved keepsake is meant to outlast trends, fashions and house moves. Treat it well and it will.

Wooden engraved gifts

  • Wipe with a soft dry cloth — never soak in water
  • Keep out of direct sunlight to avoid fading
  • Once a year, condition with a tiny amount of beeswax polish
  • Avoid placing on hot or wet surfaces

Slate and acrylic keepsakes

A barely-damp cloth is enough. Avoid abrasive sponges, glass cleaners or anything containing alcohol — it will dull the surface over time.

Hand them on

The best engraved keepsakes pass through families. A baby's name plaque becomes a memory in a memory box, then a grandparent's display piece. Look after it now and it travels.
